Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Think back to your most boring high school days, maybe even middle school where all you kept thinking was "I'd rather be anywhere else but here".
Well that's what Ferris Bueller had thought in doing so has given us what we can accomplish with a little teamwork and manipulation.
Ferris Bueller's day off is a film that showcases Ferris Bueller's (Matthew Broderick) final days of senior year in which he decides he wants one more day of glory and who could do that while in school. He can't pull it off alone though so he convinces his best friend Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck) to assist him getting his girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara) out of school while trying to outsmart principle Edward Rooney (Jeffery Jones) and Ferris's sister Jeanie (Jennifer Grey) .
Ferris represents our rebellious and calm side when things go our way or when its not and we think that it will be in the end. In reality if we were to try this most of us wouldn't even get passed phase 1. Through out the film during his shenanigans Ferris breaks the fourth wall to talk to the audience about his friends and what he's thinking. This makes us feel as if we were actually with them experiencing all the amazing sights with them.
During his fourth wall breaks he will teach the audience how to properly do things like pretending to be sick or being someone you're not. the advice really gives the film a personality because whenever you hear Ferris look at the camera you are just dying to see what he has planned.
Cameron Frye represents the anxiety always on the back of our minds when doing something we're not supposed to be doing. Through out their adventures he is always reminding Ferris to not get too wild, almost as if he's walking on egg shells. He is always stating his dad is going to kill him and keeping thinking of the consequences if they ever go caught. We don't find him annoying for it because he has every right to be, if anything we enjoy seeing this because it evens out with Ferris wild behavior.
Of course when you talk about Ferris Bueller you can't leave out the locations they visit. They visit the Art institute of Chicago, Sears Towers while standing over a railing looking down at the streets below, Chicago Mercantile exchange, and Wringley film where he even caught a ball and appeared on TV. All these sights are great, but the best one is the Von Steubens Day parade scene. Here Ferris jumps on a float and start lip-syncing "Danke Schoen" and The Beatles "Twist and Shout". This scene is so fun that we just want to dance with the crowd in the streets, or if you're watching the movie alone then dance like Ferris's dad in his office as the parade is passing by.
This is all fun, but while they're out having the time of their lives principle Rooney is trying to catch Bueller in the act as he suspects that he isn't sick at all. Jeanie who is sick and tired of Ferris having all the glory tries to bust him as well, both unaware they they are both after Ferris. This adds even more suspense to the story as both of them seem to be getting closer to Ferris in their own way only to see that Ferris had everything planned from the start.
the most iconic scene in the movie is him racing back home on foot trying to beat his sister taking their mom home. Ferris is running through backyards jumping over obstacles and interacting with the residences along the way. While Jeanie is speeding through the streets, she's no the Fast and The Furious driver mind you.
Ferris Bueller's day off is a joyful experience that made us wish we had the brains and guts he has. Kids can watch the film and see that there is a lot that their own city can offer, and adults can watch it as if they were watching themselves. Ferris Bueller has inspired us to make the most of what we can out of our day off, and if the isn't anything to do go find something because "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it".
Youre still here. Its over. Go home.....
